Farm Report For April 21
Apr. 21st, 2012 10:49 amDown to my last dozen lemons on the tree, but the tree has just begun to blossom. I covered the tree this winter and saved these spring lemons. I'm picking fresh lettuce now, and the first planting of peas is almost finished bearing.
Everything is growing like crazy. It's hard keeping up with the mowing, but in the summer the wild grass dies back, and I only will have to mow where I water. It's suddenly getting warm, today will be in the 90's.
The avocado trees are putting out their new leaves, and I've already shaded the Zutano. These trees naturally grow in tropical rainforests, and hot direct sun can be too much for them.
I'm building a rock garden in the front, and that's where I will transplant the little oregano plants, intermixed with Alyssum.
********************************************************************************************************************************************
I finished building the rock garden. in a most artistic way. Part of it was built with last year's Tribute To Stonehenge. The real Stonehenge lasts thousands of years, but mine, not so long. Did you know that rocks are heavy? Some I could not lift, and moved them with a handtruck. The garden is filled with dirt and the oregano will go in tomorrow,
In other news, my tomatoes have been started. This summer, I plan to grow 6 brandywine tomatoe plants, 4 jalapeno pepper plants, and 6 eggplant. When the red onions are harvested, I'll put in summer squash, and soon, I'll plant some snap beans.
