Ceramics Success
Apr. 28th, 2012 09:25 pmI successfully cast ten objects today. I was having trouble getting the right slip viscosity, and I may have ruined the first batch that I mixed. The second batch was close, and I used it, even though it was too thick, but it worked well. The funny thing is that I just made a third batch, and it seems to be perfect. I also got the small blunger working, and it's right for mixing small batches of slip,
I poured by hand, and guessed at the times to drain the molds and then open them. I've read and re-read my one reference book, but never done this before, or even seen it done.
I'm going to cast some more tomorrow, and build up enough stuff to fill the kiln, and then when they are dry enough, fire a load.
I have the part that I need to get the slip pump working, but I'll do mechanical stuff later, right now I'm keeping it simple.
