Farm Report June 15
Jun. 15th, 2012 12:15 pmI took the morning off and picked up aged goat manure for the west bed. I'll roto-till and fertilize as soon as the red onions are harvested, and then plant yellow summer squash.
I put in 2 more rows of beans where the spring broccoli was, and harvested some garlic. The garlic bulbs look good, with the cloves well-defined in their wrapper, but I might wait until I need that bed to harvest the rest.
The weekend will be triple-digit hot, but Monday, I'll transplant some more eggplant starter plants into the south bed, and on Tuesday, I'll harvest onions and plant squash.
I'm paying attention to the UV index reported on the weather sites. It's better to work outside in the late afternoon, rather than mid-day. Even though it's still hot at 6PM, the sun angle is lower, and the sun is less damaging.
