Farm Report July 14
Jul. 14th, 2012 09:51 pmI spent the hour before sundown outside tying more red onions into strings to hang for storage. I have a year's worth to do, and I'll finish in the morning. I'm going to pull out all of the bolted and blasted lettuce, and what I'll have left are two arugula plants, which is not really even lettuce, but a European salad green, and literally a weed. I could plant lots of it, and eat it this summer, but I really don't like arugula that much. It's good when mixed with lettuce, but I don't want it alone.
The eggplant really benefited from the hot weather, I think that's the key to growing it. I was coddling it, and thought it should go out during a cool spell, but that was a mistake.
I need to spend an hour weeding the beans, and buy a pressure canner soon.
