Garden Update April 13
Apr. 13th, 2013 12:04 pmI planted the first plum tree (Elephant Heart) today, in a very sunny spot. I need to find a second plum tree quickly, of another variety (Santa Rosa) that will pollinate this first tree.
I put up trellises for the second planting of snow peas. The first planting is starting to peter out, but I'll leave it and later collect seeds from it.
My broccoli is forming heads. Once you harvest the big central head, a couple of auxiliary heads form from each plant.
I'm covering the green onion flower heads with little paper bags. I think they're pollinated, and because the red onions are ready to blossom , I don't want cross pollination.
I started a fourth set of eggplant seeds, this time store-bought seeds. My tomato and pepper seedlings are now in big cups, out in the sun, but I haven't sprouted a single eggplant.
