The feral cat is now living in my half-finished shed. I feel bad going out there to work, and disrupting the poor thing. I may build a box for it, between the floor of the shed and ground. Some gopher-control sites claim that having a hunting cat is the best defense against gophers.

I've been spraying the avocado tree with horticultural oil, as I think it now has persea mites. First the well water is bad for it, and now it has mites. In contrast, the two new plum trees are doing great and growing like crazy.

I found a wild apple tree along the route that we walk in the evenings. It has lots of tiny, green and tart apples on it. I'll bet the squirrels strip it quickly. The dogs like the paths I blazed through the woods, and don't want to cross the grassy fields anymore, where they pick up foxtails and burrs.

The red onions are in full flower, and the flower heads are so tall that I can easily see the pollinators. I have some honey bees, but also flies and wasps. The pollinating insects that I thought of as proto-bees, are actually called hoverflies.
