The doves that live in the privit tree are almost part of the family. They're out there all the time, drink from the dog's bowl, and drive away magpies when they can. I'll bet magpies will eat bird babies.

I haven't seen the bad dog lately, so I let my dogs run free again in the boonies. Pogi was out in front, but kept looking back at Halo, waiting for Halo to run into danger alongside him. They soon found a spot where the bad dog had bedded down and pooped and pissed all around it. Pogi seems fine, with no lasting effect from his fight wounds.

It's nice for the dogs to have that pack closeness, having a fellow dog seems to be important to them both. They're not affectionate in an overt way, but they slobber over each other in mock battles. When Pogi was hurt in this recent fight, Halo knew before I did, and was acting concerned and solicitous towards Pogi.

Halo found Pogi during one of our walks, and I could tell that they really liked each other. From what little I know, Halo was raised with a brother that looked something like Pogi. Their owner suddenly died, and both dogs were tied up without food or water for a time, and only Halo survived.
