Garden Update
Jul. 21st, 2013 05:19 pmThe yellow squash have sprouted. This is a major food crop, so lets hope everything goes well. It's too hot to go out now, but I've prepared a spot in the north bed for pole beans, and I'll plant two rows tomorrow morning. That might be the last of my summer planting.
For some reason, the little door on the lawn mover was not closing tight, so grass wasn't mulching properly. I kind of ignored it, being busy, and thinking it didn't matter. Wrong!
I fixed it today, but see that the unmulched grass clippings have damaged the lawn. Oh well, live and learn. Most of the grass is in the wolf pen (front yard), anyway, and the dogs tear up the lawn terribly (giving it so much tough love). In the three corners that give the best vantage points, Pogi has scuffed the earth bare with his claws. When he barks at a threat he likes to punctuate the barks with raking his back legs into the ground.
Halo has a destructive lawn game that involves pulling out hunks of grass with his teeth when he feels I'm ignoring him.
If I didn't have such tenacious bermuda grass, the lawn would be hopeless. It's actually a nice looking lawn by neighborhood standards. That's not saying much, as there's a house a block away. with a front yard littered with junk like old appliances. That guy collects stuff other people put out for trash pickup.
