I just saw an article about how Google+ is promoting itself and working to make content more visible to casual readers.
I had to drop Google+ because it was to intrusive. It insisted on mixing the most inane Google blog posts into my news page. It was too much to see drooling idiocy posted with the headlines of the day.
Earlier on, I was looking for communities on Google+, and found just celebrity fan sites and such. In all fairness, communities have now cropped up, but at this point I'm done with Google+.
