Maybe there is such a thing as luck.

I was staying at the Nugget in Sparks, NV on Saturday night, and went down to the casino about 9:30 and played 21 and video poker for a little while, had a few drinks, but I was feeling scattered. In a desperate act, I threw 3 dollars in an especially complex, garish slot machine. Three like symbols lined up but NO MONEY CAME OUT! I sat there, stunned and perplexed, stupid from the alcohol, so I called over one of the casino guys. It seems that there is another button to push that spins another wheel, and that is what determines the payout. I did push it, and lo and behold, I won $140. In an instant of clarity I knew that I could either stay in the casino, get even more drunk and lose all my cash, or cash out, and go to bed. I was asleep by 11PM. I was laughing in the morning, knowing I beat the casino, and was leaving with their money.
On the way out of Nevada tonight, I stopped for dinner at the Boomtown casino in Verdi. My girlfriend wanted to gamble, but I wanted to get over the mountains and home at a reasonable time. She gave me the slip with a bathroom ruse, and disappeared. While I was wandering around the casino looking for her, I quickly won another $240 in a few more pulls. In this second machine, a paper voucher printed out, so I showed it to some friends as proof, before cashing it in. Then I went looking for her some more, and told them to wait there, I'd be back in ten minutes. I was back in 5 minutes, with a third payout...$200...this time, two cupfuls of silver dollar tokens. My girlfriend was there also, waiting for me and had won about $200 herself. We hightailed it out of Nevada.
