Mechanical Update
Feb. 24th, 2014 03:43 pmI'm pleased to have fixed the pull starter on the rototiller. A YouTube video showed me how to rewind the spiral tension spring, and then I figured out through trial and error how the bearings went back in. It has a horizontal shaft engine and there are six little ball bearings that drop with gravity to momentarily connect the engine shaft with the pull starter. It's a very clever and elegant design.
The plan now, for tomorrow, is to till the main garden bed, working in lots of compost. Big rains starting on Wednesday, which will help as well. After the rains, the spring planting begins with the red and yellow onion seedlings.
EPILOGUE
The tiller started quickly, and ran strongly. A little tilling is best, and I was sorry to have to stop so quickly.
