Ebola is spreading from country to country. Infected people are avoiding doctors and flying across national borders. I wonder if it's possible to contain it anymore, and how this will play out. It's like the worst of the European bubonic plagues of the past, with no cure and a 90% fatality rate.

When I read news of current events, I wonder why people need horror fiction. The horror is real and all around us.

The frequency of 90 degree days in the US has been plummeting for 80 years, and 2014 has had the lowest frequency of 90 degree days through July 23 on record. The only other year which came close was 1992, and that was due to dust in the atmosphere from Mt Pinatubo. The warmest year on record was 1934.
