Garden Update 1/04/15

Our spate of freezing weather is over, and I believe I saved the lemons that are still on the tree. I'm making the last batch of marmalade, and can also salt, and juice some of what's still out there.


I added the wood ashes from an outdoor burn to the south bed as fertilizer, and I know where to get some fallen oak wood for another few burns.\



After this period of freezes, I declared the plum trees dormant, and trimmed them pretty severely, as per internet directions. The main idea is to guide the trees towards structural strength, so they can hold lots of plums without breaking. I also sprayed them with dormant oil to control pests.
