Someone crashed into a power pole across the road at 2AM, and took down the electric lines and a telephone pole as well. When it happened, the dogs heard it, and wanted to go out, but I had no idea what had happened. The power was off until this afternoon, but the dogs sort of liked the activity; all the vehicles and men working. They guarded the front yard throughout the crisis.
Having the power off was good disaster training, and I was surprised how quickly I lost water pressure. The little pressurized tank of drinking water under the kitchen sink however was enough for immediate use. The gas stove still worked, but I had to light it manually.
I took the dogs for a special walk near the San Joaquin river today, and even though it was new territory, I let Halo run off the leash and he minded me perfectly. I wish Pogi behaved so well. When I got Pogi, I thought that he could watch Halo, and learn the rules that way, but they're very different dogs.
