Literary Update: 1Q84
Jun. 27th, 2015 08:21 amA fascinating Japanese novel about life in a world that shifts slightly into an alternate reality. I've so far only read the beginning, but recommend it.

Halo came across coyote scat in his territory, and did the most elaborate marking I've ever seen him do. He pooped four times, in a wide area around the scat, and then walked back and urinated all over the coyote dropping.
Halo isn't much for hunting, but maintaining his territory is very important for him.
Halo also did a strong guarding behavior when we came upon a pair of coyotes last year. He advanced on them, walking out about 50 yards, and then sat down between the coyotes and me. He was guarding me, and telling the coyotes as much, with the canine version of "You Shall Not Pass!"
Cooler today, and I'm really glad this heat wave is over.
