Cat #5 and Tuxedo cat wander far and wide, but Orange cat, Tabby cat and Cali stay close to home. I was worried when Cali was nowhere to found at dinnertime. She's pretty old, and I thought she was perhaps hiding somewhere in the garage. She always would come when called, but not this time. I just went out and looked again, and finally she shows up in the side yard, her fur full of burrs. She went walkabout, but managed to get home before dark.

Jack's been hunting in the morning, out in the boonies. Once he's out there, and off leash, he seems like a young dog again. The last few encounters have been with rabbits, as opposed to hares. The rabbits scurry into the thick underbrush, where they have underground burrows. Jack goes in and looks for them, enjoying it immensely.

When he's out their he's looking and listening, but his sense of smell is in overdrive. He'll drool because he's essentially "tasting" the air. Neither of the other dogs has that sense of hyper smell. He's a real hunting dog, and it's really interesting to see him operate.

I've heard Jack bark a few times now, once when a neighbor hung a string mop on the common fence. The mop looked something like a head, with long hair. Jack was out there alone, and I guess he needed to sound off.
