African DNA
Sep. 18th, 2018 02:48 pm23andMe is getting more precise in identifying DNA, and have narrowed down my West African heritage to:
Senegambian & Guinean
0.2%
The people of Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau share many traditions related to the history of powerful empires in the region. In The Gambia, the Mandinka are the largest group, with historical roots along the Niger River basin, while the Wolof form the majority in neighboring Senegal. In Guinea and Guinea-Bissau the Fulani predominate, and may have subtle genetic links to North Africa or Western Asia. Today, around 20% of African American ancestry is from this region.
I look European, but like many Americans from colonial stock, I have a touch of African. In the southern US, about 10% of "white people" do.
In other news, I managed to give 3 cats their flea meds. The tuxedo cat wasn't around. The cats seem to be already sleeping in the garage. They use a old dog door, but the garage is now exclusive to cats. I'll have to get winter cat boxes set up with fresh hay. Cali is eating well, and let's hope she stays healthy and strong.
