I'm on the phone with them to find out what happened to the $100 gift card that they promised me in June when I started business DSL service.

I talked with 4 different people at AT&T and got 4 completely different answers. The people at At&T high speed internet denied I was ever offered a gift card, but the last person at the general customer service number claims it was mailed August 27 and if I don't receive it by September 11 to call them back.

AT&T is a company I don't care for too much. I had trouble with them when I used them for long distance. Terrible customer service. If it wasn't for AT&T being the only provider for iphones, I would own one.

From what I hear, there is now some complex iphone modification that will allow other sim cards to be used. I still use a really funny old cell phone that is branded "Pacific Bell". It costs me about $8 month for airtime and it's frequencies only work on a few archaic networks, USA380 and Vstream. Lately it's always in the roaming mode.

In America, I believe the best networks and the most reliable service is provided by CDMA companies like Verizon and Sprint. CDMA technology does not use sim cards. An unlocked GSM phone such as the iphone would do me no good unless I used TMobile. I use Sprint and have been very happy with their service so I don't plan on changing. If Apple comes out with a CDMA model, I'll get one and use it with Sprint. I read that Apple tried to cut a deal with Verizon (CDMA), but Verizon didn't want to lower their plan prices to accomodate iphone users who would want data and phone services.

You may have to buy a new phone soon if the networks you use start to become more scarce.
