Update August 5

On these warm summer evenings, I'll sometimes leave the front door open. I've been losing little inconsequential things around the house, but finding them outside later, among the dog's toys.

Every single bean in the last planting has come up. I didn't soak them first, but simply popped them in the ground. The first planting has been producing beans for over five weeks, and now, may be slowing down a bit.
