More Agriculture

robbyOn Sunday, I planted two eggplant seedlings and ten bush bean seedlings. I rototilled the last large area in the side yard, and later in the shadier areas, I'll plant onions, a mix of various lettuces, and oregano.
I have two sections of property between the fence and the road that I cleared of weeds and junk early this spring. I've been mowing them since, but I just realized that the biggest section, that faces the southwest, gets great sun and could be suitable for grape vines. Wine grapes are funny, as you don't want to use prime agricultural land. Poor soil stresses the fruit in a good way, and ultimately improves the quality of the wine. There are commercial vineyards around here, and a couple of guys down the road grow grape vines around their houses.
I've been working at gopher eradication, especially in those areas along the road, and I'm thinking that with grape vines, I would need to place a metal gopher barrier under the soil along the perimeter and also have a fence above the ground. I've made wine in the past, so why not use this space and end up with 10 cases of my own wine every year?
