I'm rebuilding an old gas kiln, and had a breakthrough in fabricating a pilot line. The obsolete old valve and pilot line were a different diameter and had different fittings, and I was stuck. This is pretty arcane stuff, but I was able to buy a section of auto brake line that was close, and modify it to have the right length and fittings. Tomorrow, I bend it to the proper shape, and connect the entire manifold to a gas line for testing.

I'm happy that I got this pilot line built, and had to really stretch past my comfort zone to do it. Soon I will assemble the entire kiln outside and do a test firing, just to see how hot it will go. I'm hoping I can get to cone 10.

What is the kiln for?

I'm starting a ceramics business, and I will be firing reproductions of ancient central American pottery.

That sounds fabulous. I hope it goes well.
