I harvested the last of the onions, and they're drying on racks in the garage. The earlier onions have been tied into long strings and right now, they're draped over a ladder, soon to be moved into a dark, cool closet. They are quite pretty when strung together, with the dried stalks hanging down.

The old onion bed has been deeply tilled and composted, and is now planted with yellow summer squash. I worked in 5 wheelbarrow loads of last fall's compost. The eggplant and peppers are really growing and I have flowers now on both the pepper plants, and the two Brandywine tomato plants. The six Early Girl plants are like a big green hedge, full of little green tomatoes, but none have ripened yet. The beans are ready though, and I'm eating them now.

I also trimmed the fir trees, again being careful and cutting the minimum.
I have the tendency to go too far while I'm out there with a saw, and I could easily ruin the natural shape of the trees.

The Zutano Avocado tree has responded well to more shaded conditions and it has lots of lush green leaves.

All this work has made me sore. It's Advil time, and time for less strenuous things.
