I've had a couple of bad days with my knee, but I'm on the mend again. Sitting aggravates things, so I try not to sit, and haven't been on the interweb. I had a very busy strenuous day yesterday, and finished all my work, and oddly felt better, at the end of the day. I'm walking the dogs again, and they are happy about that.

i mean hot, like hot water bottle. also, my experience with my knee tells me to avoid using a support unless you are doing something that usually hurts your knee. you can't strengthen your knee with a support on.

how much running did you do?

I used to run races, but in retrospect, I think it f*cked up my knees. The thing is not really a support, and I'm not wearing it all the time anymore.
I'm better now, but I think it's time to find a proper doctor. My internet medical education is pretty haphazard.

I was always too big and too heavy to be a runner, and I thought that if I trained more, I could get past the pain. That was the "no pain, no gain" nonsense. You are much lighter, and probably don't put nearly the same stress on your joints.
