I sowed the north bed with snowpeas, broccoli, and a lettuce mix. It's a warm sunny day, and I planted about two weeks earlier than last year. Later today, I'm going to do a root pruning on the Early Girl tomato plants, and hopefully trigger a final ripening. I want to plant the two final beds, in early November, with both bulb and green onions and also garlic.

Pogi is helping me eliminate gophers. This morning, when he started digging, I followed him and found the tunnels he was excavating, then baited them and covered the entrance with bricks. If we can do this methodically, soon we'll have them under control. As I was baiting a hole, Pogi was digging nearby, and something hit my leg. I think he actually had a gopher running around on the surface, and it ran into me.

It's fascinating to read about your seasonal gardening when it's so different from mine. You mentioned that you planned to use garlic from your local market, as a source of cloves, and I think that's likely to work well. It might even be a bulb grown on a local farm therefore suitable for your conditions.

I looked up growing garlic on the interweb, and they recommended a "hard-tip" garlic, which I found at the market. I've separated the bulb into 10 cloves, which should be about right for me. This garlic probably came fro Gilroy, about 100 miles south.
