Lazy, stupid collection agencies, bothering the shit out of me

One of the reasons that I just canceled my land line, is that I was getting relentless robo-calls from various collection agencies, looking for a person that lived at this address in 2009, before I bought the house, and also a second person that previously had my phone number, two years ago.

When I could, I would set the collection agencies straight, but most of the calls were recorded messages that were dialed automatically, and there was no easy way to contact the caller.

Some days, I would have half dozen bogus, bothersome messages when I got home. This has gone on for two years.

I don't understand why anybody has a land-line, frankly. I guess some broadband providers deliver ADSL through land-lines still. That's the only reason to have one.

Two years ago it was structured such that At&T only sent DSL through copper phone lines. Now an AT&T division called U-verse is here, along with fiber optic lines, and they don't care if I don't want a land line.

One thing I'm gonna now try is to stream internet video to my TV. I can watch my free antenna TV (which gets 20+ stations), and when I'm bored I can switch over, and let the digital world be my oyster.
