Farm Report For April 3

I'm eating the winter broccoli now. The heads are always smaller than the spring crop. I' m also picking lots of nice snowpeas.The weeds are under control, but I should mow the side and front yard soon

At the moment it's technically a low maintenance backyard that's suddenly being infested by weeds. I started drenching it with Burnout (the clove smell lingers for a few days ugh.) which seems to work. I just got a hula hoe the other day and it's absolutely awesome.

I have a hula hoe, as well, but in the spring, when conditions are right, sometimes the weeds I cut out will re-root themselves. I probably should rake them up. Sometimes, I will spray Roundup, it's a clever product that inhibits a plant enzyme, and then degrades itself in a day or so. It's not at all like those old-style broad spectrum herbacides.

I think I'm going to shift to Roundup. You know, apartment living spoiled me. Everything was always kept under control. Haha. Well, it's still a neat progression of responsibilities and I'm learning a lot. :-)
