On the other hand, no good will come from arming the militant Islamic jihadis that are Assad's opposition. They are enemies of the west.
It wasn't widely reported, but an inadvertent live microphone in Egypt recently caught the leaders of that government clearly naming the US as enemies, even though we've just given them billions of dollars in aid.
