Summer Vegetables All Planted
Jul. 13th, 2015 12:23 pmToday, I planted the last crop, butternut squash, which should be ready about Halloween. I had to drive to a special seed store for seed, as the ones I had been growing cross-pollinated and became strange green squash. Home Depot and Target are closer, but don't carry real butternut squash seeds. I bought enough seed so I can supply two gardening neighbors.

This would have been the year for me to grow yellow squash. The water restrictions have prevented local farmers from growing pumpkins. When they grow acres of pumpkins nearby, swarms of insects appear, and feed on my yellow squash, which is the same species as pumpkin. Butternut, being a different species is untouched.
