Industrial Equipment Update
Aug. 27th, 2005 04:49 pmI broke down and got an electric stacker (a baby forklift) on Friday, something like this http://www.ajgates.com/primemover_wsx2025.htm. I'm doing everything on the cheap, so I bought it used from an aroma therapy company in Marin county. I'm going to pick it up Monday, and at 2500lbs it's just at the weight capacity of my truck. Because it's so heavy, I had to inflate the truck tires to the maximum, to have sufficient load capacity. It was hard to find a gas station with a good air compressor that would pump the tires up to 70 psi. It's also going to be a hassle lifting it in and out of the truck, and I'll have 2 by 4 braces and straps to secure it for travel.
Right now, I mainly need it for loading and unloading trucks, but it has a two stage mast, and can reach about 8 feet high, so I could conceivably put up pallet racks and do high cube storage. Someone told me that I will need city permits and inspectors to put up pallet racks, and they charge $$$ for all that. I'll cross that bridge at a later date.
I tried to pick it up Friday, but the aroma therapy company never used it much, and it wasn't charged well enough to move, so it's charging up this weekend. They felt badly they hadn't thought to check the battery charge, so they loaded me up with aroma therapy products for free.
