Just potted about 20 sprigs of lavander, hoping that some will root. It's the perfect low-maintainance plant for this climate.

The eggplant is hanging in there, surviving the flea beetles, except for one that was pecked apart by birds. I replaced it with a little pepper plant, which is also gone this morning. Just like Rosanna Rosannadanna always says; "If it's not one thing, it's the other." The vegetable birds are cute little songbirds which I do not shoot, while the almond pests were crows and magpies. I think the almond shells have now developed to the point where birds aren't interested.

I thinned the squash to 13 plants, which might be too many. I'll have a little open spot left in the garden when I finish gathering the last dried peas for seed. I'm thinking of planting a winter squash variety (butternut?).

The first planting of mixed lettuce has bolted, so I'm picking through the last 4 plants, gathering and eating what's still good. The second planting of lettuce is about ready to pick. Lettuce has been a great success, but I can really only eat one salad a day.

The monolithic program, that will cost society 1.5 trillion dollars. doesn't cover the poorest in society. Obama wanted to have the states cover them under Medicaid (edit), but many states can't afford to, and now the Supreme Court has ruled the states can't be obligated.
