Gardening And Dogs.
Aug. 20th, 2013 10:13 pmThe summer squash is here already, ready to pick very soon. Even the second planting of butternut squash is flowering. I'll let each butternut plant develop three squash and pinch off the rest. It will be a race to get three per plant fully mature before the first freeze.
I've been writing about Pogi's nutty habits, but he's made great progress with the discipline of staying on course when he's running off leash. He will go hundreds of yards ahead, and when he gets sloppy, I can yell "Stay with me!" and that is usually enough.
Halo is so good that sometimes he will go to the exact edge of the allowed range and then stop. He is waiting for me to call him back and tell him he's a good dog, without actually going off course.
Halo loves the daily routine and is a very orderly dog. On hot nights, I stay up late, and finally, when I go to bed, Halo is so happy, and everything is right again with the world. Halo used to love the dog training exercises, but I can't find the time for that anymore.
