Home Again

We made it home, safe and sound from our 14 hour, 650 mile road trip. It was brutal starting back down the summit after sundown, feeling exhausted. The truck was running badly at 7000 feet, and the engine didn't have the normal power. I could smell the smoke coming north from the huge out of control Yosemite fire. We took the first rest stop on Interstate 80, and I finished my cold coffee and took the dogs for a walk. I then bit the bullet and drove the long, dark descent to the valley floor.

Poor Pogi was especially happy to make it back home. Neither dog ate anything during the trip.

Harvested the first summer squash, and also sprayed the squash with organic horticultural oil to control aphids. I haven't seem the flea beetles that destroyed the crop last season. There are no pumpkin fields nearby, which seem to generate such horrible swarms of them.

I'm in the middle of picking lots of Roma tomatoes again. I have two gallons, and I'm going to wait an hour and go back to pick some more.

The lone Brandywine tomato bush is full of green tomatoes, some getting large, but none have begun to ripen.
