My old Dad lost his balance and took a tumble yesterday. I got a call from the police department and met him at the hospital ER. He bled a lot, because it was a head wound, but there was no concussion or any broken bones. I took him home later that night, but I was totally exhausted myself, so I got something to eat and went to bed, but didn't sleep very well.

I finally got up at 5:30 this morning and cleaned lots of congealed blood off the kitchen floor, the telephone and even his walker. Pools of blood, like out of a murder scene. Hopefully, that was the low part of my day. I had the sweats, nausea and a sharp headache while I was cleaning, but I feel better now. I'm good in a crisis and can always do what has to be done, but truthfully it all exerts a toll on me.

He's losing his sense of balance, I think. When we got home that night he wanted me to follow behind in case he went over backwards.

It's good that you are there for him.

He's now in his middle eighties, and is gradually losing both his mental and physical faculties.

It's an inevitable part of aging, and I'm glad he's still around. Can you believe that I just got an insulting response to this comment from one of the sockpuppets? How fucked up is that?

You got an insulting response to that? That is completely out of line. Self-knowledge through wordplay, fine, whatever, there's stuff people go through that any good person knows is not to be toyed with. Stuff where you haven't been there and know you're lucky not to be dealing with it yet yourself. You haven't been there so motives and what's unrevealed are not your business.

Every PICK sure tells a story . . .

All right you were impersonated. Fine. That is what I expected. I hold you in the highest regard. I figured this was some kind of error but I don't hold back on garbage and I don't care who it is doing it. I'm sick of needlessly making people more miserable. I was like that the day you met me. If I WASN'T like that I'd be of no interest to you.

You're a good man, Robby, for taking care of your Dad like that. That's a tough situation to deal with.

Hope he's OK. Was my father's birthday today -- late 80s. He mentally fine but insists he's slipping fast, and physically at least that's probably true

If he tells you that he's slipping, he probably is. It's tough getting old, except when you consider the alternative.
